IT Impacts

Hello,

I am a student at our school’s IT club. I am interested in technology and I want to share information about information technologies.

Information technology is the use of computers, mobile phones, storage and networking to create, process and store electronic data. Information technologies have positive and negative effects on personal use, communities and society.

Effects on individuals

With help of information technologies the instant messaging, emails, voice and video calls become quicker, cheaper and much efficient. You can easily do banking transactions with the help of information technologies. You can easily send or receive money with the help of information technologies. You can also store information which is usually safe and you can access it everywhere. For example, you can store your photos and documents on Google Drive, OneDrive or DropBox. There are some negative effects too. Though information technology may have made communication quicker, easier and more convenient, it has also permitted the destruction of personal information from cell phone signal interceptions to email hacking, people are becoming to learn other people’s private information. Looking at computers for a long time could make a headache or sometimes people reduce from their sleeping time. Using a lot of mobile devices and computers decrease people’s concentration and they can’t focus on their work. Sometimes people play video games and use social media for hours and hours. When people use information technologies a lot, it distracts them from their work.

Effects on society

One of the advantages of information technology is the creation of new and interesting jobs. Computer programmers, Systems analyzers, Hardware and Software developers and Web designers are just some of the many new employment opportunities created with the help of IT. People can access information easily so they can be more knowledgeable. They can easily do research or watch videos about experiments. It has got some negative effects too. Although IT created different job opportunities a lot of jobs like postman have been disappeared and it is causing more people to become unemployed. There is more computer waste that harms nature. More plants and animals die and they get harmed. Humans can’t live without nature.

Effects on the community

Information technologies have positive effects on the communities. Information technology makes it easy to access academic information at any time. Both students and teachers use Information technology to find educational material. It does not matter where they are or the time of the day is. Students can attend online courses. You can find a student in Africa studying the same online course as a student in USA or India. Also, teachers can assign tasks to students via electronic email or educational forums. It affects the way of learning. It has some disadvantages too. For example, there is a lot of wrong information. It can be hard to separate true information from wrong information. Students might use this wrong information when they are doing homework or a project. Students might cheat too. Sometimes students get a picture which was protected by law and they have problems with malpractice.
